LaunchELF v3.55a beta (30.03.2006)
In this beta version of uLaunchELF the menu functions for configuration have been modified
as discussed in a previous post at PS2-Scene, so as to reduce the risk
of screen flicker. The same change has NOT been made for the normal
menu, or for the file browser, because of some problems that remain to be solved.
Those Problems don't really affect configuration.
As a side effect of the new method for handling the menus, the old method
of handling timing, simply by counting VSync loops, can no longer work.
We need to replace that primitive method with a real timer method,
but this has not been done yet. This means that menus using the
new methods can not currently handle any timing, so using this method would be
inappropriate both for the main menu (needs timeout capability) and for the
file browser (needs timed auto_repeat for scrolling large folders).
The new function readpad_norepeat() is used instead of the old function readpad(),
for those menus that now use the new methods, but that will be modified later,
when 'readpad()' has been changed to use proper timing instead of loop counting.
Users that suffered from screen flicker problems with previous versions should simply use
the CONFIG menu and its submenus in this version, to see if the problem goes away.
Since the 'SKIN SETTINGS' submenu is one of those using the new methods, you can
conveniently test whether any particular skin will give flickers even with the new methods,
without having to leave that menu between tests.
